Your BlackBerry lets you conduct your business from anywhere. A large part of your BlackBerry's functionality is the device's interaction with the BlackBerry Desktop Software, which allows you to protect your data and add programs to the device. When attempting to upgrade or uninstall the software, you may encounter a 'BlackBerry Error 1316' message, which derives from the InstallShield program encountering an incorrect version of a necessary file.
There are three ways to get around this problem. Uninstall the Older Software Version If you are trying to upgrade your BlackBerry Desktop Software to a newer version, the older one could be causing the error. To get around this issue, uninstall the older version manually. Go to the Control Panel and select 'Programs and Features.' Select 'BlackBerry Desktop Software' from the list that appear and click the 'Uninstall' button at the top of the window. Click 'Next,' 'OK' and then 'Finish' to complete the process.
Restart your computer, then install the newer version of the software. Rename the InstallShield Folder Because InstallShield is causing the error by looking at the incorrect file, if you are trying to upgrade to a new version of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, you can simply rename the InstallShield folder to work around the issue.
Click 'Start' and choose 'Computer.' Double-click on your hard drive, then 'Program Files' and 'Common Files.' Some systems may also have a 'Program Files (x86)' folder in addition to the 'Program Files' folder; in that case, use the '(x86)' version. Right-click on the 'InstallShield' folder and choose 'Rename.'

Enter 'InstallShield_old' and press 'Enter.' Proceed to install the BlackBerry Desktop Software, but be sure to change the name back once you have completed the installation. Repair the BlackBerry Desktop Software You can also get around the 'Error 1316' problem by using the 'Repair' option in the BlackBerry Desktop Software uninstall program. First get a new copy of the software from the BlackBerry website. Download the EXE file for your desired version of the software from the BlackBerry website, then rename it to a ZIP file. Extract the contents to a folder somewhere on your computer. Run the uninstall program for the BlackBerry Desktop Software, but choose 'Repair' once InstallShield opens.
The 1316 error will appear again, but now click 'Browse' and select the 'BlackBerry Desktop software.msi' file that is in the folder where you extracted your files. The uninstall process should now complete successfully, and you can reinstall the software normally. Clean Uninstall If none of these options work, you may need to do a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Software. This will remove all user settings, so when you reinstall the software, you will need to set up all your settings again.

Perform this task by using the same process for uninstalling an older version of the software, but after you click 'Remove,' place a check next to 'Remove all user settings for BlackBerry Desktop Software' before clicking 'OK' and then 'Finish.' Once this process is complete, restart your computer before installing the software again.

Hi there I tried to email it back but it came back as a error Herewith the email's content + picture:::: Hi there • Did you make any recent changes on your computer prior to this issue? Yip – I think I accidentally deleted a Samsung app – I had a lot of garbage on my Laptop which I deleted, but I think in doing so I deleted a Samsung app. (See attached.pdf screen shot of error at start up of laptop) – Unsure whether it affects the Blackberry at all – It didn’t before and I did back-ups all the time etc – However, I only accidentally deleted the G-Drive recently so possibly may be related, but seriously doubt it.
• Why you are trying to repair Blackberry Software? I accidentally started deleting my G (Blackberry drive) and wanted to repair/reinstall it - Are you facing any issue while connecting your phone to your computer? It doesn’t reinstall back-up properly – I was hoping that I could also just re-install my latest back-up and fix the error – It gets to a point and then give the error previously denoted, and then revokes all it’s been trying to re-install of back-up In the interim, I will suss out the Java issue and see what I can do to fix – Thanks Go well Charzi G.
