Yeah, I'm not really into rewire. Don't know why but I don't like the concept, prefer everything inside my cubase project. There is no real reason I'm just mentally lazy. Never used rewire.
I am going to check ABL. It should probably be good. I would love to have one rebirth box in my vst slots, it's the one I tried that is very closed to the original, at least as interface design. Don't like to much adds on it, distortion, chorus, more filters etc etc. Also rebirth's drum 808 and 909 was closed to the original as interface design, altought very small on resolution and difficult to tweak. Also rebirth's drum 808 and 909 was closed to the original as interface design, altought very small on resolution and difficult to tweak. The drums were completely sample-based. This means no magic cumulative effects like the originals have - where triggering the kick twice would change the second sound because the voltages in the circuitry were at different levels, or a change in sound when the Accent was used.
I'm sure someone else can describe the magic that goes on internally better than me. The 303 has this phenomenon, too. Rebirth was made in a time where just the skin of the thing and the claim that it sounded like the real thing were enough; only later did we get more accurate modeling (after all, Rebirth runs just fine on a P1-166.
This doesn't mean that a 303 is easy to model, it just means that they chose shortcuts and had to trade accuracy for speed). That was the reason you could completely replace and skin the TR-machines and put your own samples in there. D16 also has 808 and 909 emulations, by the way. Hate to be a snob but why not simply get a x0xb0x?
Probably the closest thing to a real 303 there is. Half the fun of the 303 is its interface and controls. Assembled kits are normally available via fleabay. Speaking as a owner of a TB-303 it seems the only thing as 'good' as the original. Because it IS the original in most respects. Yoozer got it, the TR-808 & TR-909 are true analogue drum machines (except certain 909 voices are half 12-bit samples). In saying that both kicks are notoriously difficult to model as they're completely analogue.
How they react to each other (envelopes), accent, total accent, tune, etc. D16 also has 808 and 909 emulations, by the way.yes. I have d16 808 & 909 but it seems that hi-hat sound miss some frequencies over 12k hz. Someone else reported that? On a ftt analyzer HH sounds looks like mp3 samples. That is a shame because I like the interface, altought it has many new stuff originals doesn't have.
About 303 I don't need hardware clone I do everything ITB. I'm going to try ABL.does it has a skin closed to the original, sorry for my stupid request but I like my toys.heh faust. I would love to have a percfect clone ( at least graphically, if not sonically ) of originals.uhh, isn't that a bit backwards?
What good is the look if the sound isn't there? As can be seen with the changes D16 had to make, Roland isn't going to let anyone do that (at least not since ReBirth). D16's 808 and 909 emulations used to look a lot more like the originals than they do now as well (actually, they were gorgeous - even better than their 303. Really too bad they had to change them, they don't look nearly as nice now.) i use ABL2 and am quite happy with it, i plan to get the D16 one as well eventually.
Demo'd their 808 and 909 but wasn't too happy with them overall, i guess i'll stick with the Goldbaby samples for now. I thought the Audio Realism 808/909/606 (ADM) was pretty much crap. Yeah I have to agree. I am not happy with d16 drum sounds too and ADM one does not sound good too, but littlebit better. D16 HH sounds doesn't work well. To me the situation is absolutely clear: D16 instruments (Phoscyon, Drumazon ecc.ecc.) really are crap.
Well, i used them for a while because i wasn't finding anything else, but they sounded extremely 'flat' and fake, especially drum machines. I was going to buy a 303 clone for 400€ but then three days ago i got the ABL2 (and ADM) and jesus christ i'm so happy i didn't spend those money 'cause that plug in brings you THAT 3000$ sound in 4,9megabytes and this is a ****ing miracle.
Get a bunch of MIDI knobs and you're in heaven. Also D16 interfaces are full of functions that you'll never use and i personally find them obsolete. Audiorealism's are uglier but they do the job the right way. Thanks Audiorealism. To me the situation is absolutely clear: D16 instruments (Phoscyon, Drumazon ecc.ecc.) really are crap.

You shouldn't need to read the manual to learn how to use a drum machine plugin but that is what is needed with the D16 808.
I started using ADM right away and it is so dope. Not every sound is totally spot-on but with a bit of processing it can sound SO tough.
And it really feels like a drum machine in my tracks, if that makes sense. ABL2 is great too, best 303 plug I've tried yet (but I haven't tried that many).
